What is happening to Future Soccer Stars Foundation (FSS)?
We’re growing. By leaps and bounds. And this year's annual "City on the Pitch" PlayDay proved it.
762 CHILDREN PARTICIPATED on June 21, 2019. We couldn’t keep track with all the swirls of excitement when kids stepped off the busses. (Don’t forget... our first annual event had only 17 kids...)
Even more awesome, we brought (for good) our event from Newark into the City of Wilmington where our host programs live and breathe. We could not be happier to work with BPG|Sports to be able to cut down the amount of travel for our kids and have access to the 76ers Fieldhouse for our larger events and programming. Additionally, our partners the Delaware Blue Coats, TITUS Sports Academy, and Nemours Sports Medicine round out an incredible family of sports resources. A big “thank you!” to BPG and BPG|Sports.
This year we also owe huge thanks to Chase. Chase provided not only financial support to pull off this ever-growing event, but also provided free sessions for families to learn and be more versed in creating personal financial stability and strength. As an organization, FSS knows all too well how every dollar matters in the current pay-to-play environment in soccer.
Because of Chase’s commitment to its community old and new, they will continue to provide these
opportunities and we hope you’ll take advantage of these free courses. We'll keep you posted.
In conjunction with Chase, the Philadelphia Union, who has been a supporter and partner from the very first annual event, brought the “pro-ness” to our day. This is one of the facets of our partnership in large... to help create equality in the opportunities to be identified for higher levels of play. We plan to host Union I.D. PlayDays in the near future — stay tuned!
Last but not least, Delaware’s very own Mark McKenzie of the Philadelphia Union showed us what it means to give back. As our FSSF Ambassador, Mark has continually provided generous time to hang and play with the kids. He’s a huge inspiration to us all as we watch his burgeoning career not only with the Union but with the U.S. Men’s National U-20 Team. As US Soccer continues to grow, it's so important to have role models like Mark paving the way for city youths. Thank you, Mark. Follow him...
FSS continues to work with local partners to enrich not only its programming but annual events -- it's our way of helping to strengthen the ties within our communities in the city. It’s so important to us because a strong community takes care of its own. And we could not have pulled off a PlayDay like this without the help and cooperation of the Delaware Art Museum, TITUS, Strive, Sutton Bus Co., Seasons Pizza, Electro Sound Systems, D.J. Marcus Watkins (DJ Marchitech), performer Giovanni Paredes (Young Seda), performer Isaac Harris (Black Waldo), certainly last but not least local artist Terrance Vann (Terrance designed the backbag image for kids to color and design as their own).
